Whether you are an amateur with a good eye hoping to
learn new skills to enhance your work or an advanced
photographer hoping
to revisit traditional skills and be inspired by the
learning and creative processes of the group, we’d love
to have you join us! Any level is welcome to study
photography with us. Bring the equipment you are
comfortable carrying, lighter is better. We will spend a
lot of time discussing light and composition, skills
that require your creativity and eye. A lot can be
accomplished with basic equipment. Most desirable is
enthusiasm and a love for photography, culture and a
never to be forgotten adventure!
Bring your questions.
We are covering a lot but this is your time to learn. We
can discuss anything not presented class in the field or
at other times during the trek. What are your goals? How
will you share your photos? During meals, we will
discuss other photography ideas, creative and productive
ideas.
Depending on how many trekkers are able to attend, we
will offer an exhibit in Whitefish, Montana featuring
the finest images from our photography/trekking Nepalese

why their favorite portraits worked. What makes the

portrait subjects? When is a candid portrait more
effective than posed and vice versa? These are topics
for open discussion. Next, we will discuss a more
important topic: Shooting your portrait subject in
various available lighting sources. Laira will discuss
traditional portrait studio lighting concepts that can
be emulated with available light (and how to use shadows
to your advantage). We will discuss fill light, side
light, back light and how to create a classic
environmental portrait using available light.
Assignment: Students
will be asked to shoot a portrait of a subject on the
